We are Hoosier Up!

Hoosier Up! is an organization that strives to provide an easy to use learning platform for youth athletes across the state of Indiana where they can participate in virtual sports and fitness camps hosted by Indianapolis Professional Sports Teams in response to the mass cancellation of all in-person youth fitness camps across Indiana.

With the onset of the Covid-19 virus this year and the subsequent shutdown of the United States' non-essential commercial services in March, many significant industries were faced with an immediate sink or swim situation. The most considerable blow was coming in the form of a ban on large in-person gatherings. Though this decision was appropriate, given the severity of the virus, the sports industry saw a near immediate cause and effect with nearly all major professional leagues across the US shutting down their seasons within weeks of each other. With all of the major sports leagues shut down, a ripple effect was created outside of the actual players and coaches not being able to practice their craft anymore. Thousands upon thousands of stadium staffers and support personnel were subsequently and suddenly without a means of income. Now, the revenue-generating force of the dozen or so US professional leagues were closed. And with the leagues closed indefinitely a quite a bit of controversy, which dominated the news cycle for weeks on end, was caused.

Unfortunately, with all of the controversy surrounding workers, players, and owners suddenly not have a consistent source of income, a sizable demographic also affected by the league shutdowns were, for the most part, overlooked entirely. The overlooked demographic was the hundreds of thousands of youth athletes across the US who happily spend their summers, not in front of a video but outside in getting physical and most times, spending a good chunk of their summer in a sports camp. With all the professional seasons effectively shut down indefinitely, all the in-person youth camps were closed without an adequate replacement.

That is where Hoosier Up! Hopes to fill that gap. Covid-19 is likely not going anywhere anytime soon. The days of carefree in-person mass gatherings in the US are also likely to not be a comfortable reality for at least several years. That means Teams and Athletes alike are going to have to adapt or evolve and find new ways to engage each other and their respective communities.

Hoosier Up! hopes to work in conjunction with Indianapolis' already community-centric professional sports teams by creating a mutually beneficial platform to not just the many fans who would take part in the virtual camps but also for the teams by providing them with a way to offset lost revenue.
